Sorrow to Gladness

We cling to the good times in life
And we fearfully run from the latter.
We often neglect that humility
Can be achieved in pain, if handled well.

We wrestle with our sadness and hurt
As if we were made not to feel them.
We fight against our God-given emotions,
Binding and rebuking them as if they are demonic.

When in actuality,
The focus should be anchoring ourselves
In the presence of God
And let the storm pass.

We often try to stop internal storms from happening
But in reality, when the weatherman announces a storm,
We prepare.
We buy food, flashlights, generators, and other necessities.

Growing up in the Caribbean,
Depending on the category of the storm,
Windows were sealed with boards for protection.
We prepared for the external storms.

Yet we lack preparation for the internal storms.
We neglect the necessary practices and devotions
As a result, we miss the transition
From sorrow to gladness.

Scripture Support:
Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Ecclesiastes 1:18 “For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.”
